Foreign film crew visit Randburg

Norway’s TV2 film crew visited Randburg as part of their exposure of South Africa during the World Cup. Here they pose with operations manager Colin Madurai and security personnel from the Randburg Management Business District.
Randburg requires a new solution
Randburg’s history began in the 1950s when a small new town was established on the outskirts of Joburg. The idea of a town was strengthened with the planning of a CBD for Randburg in the 1970s. In 1976 an outdoor mall was built and then a Civic Centre was added.
In 1985 an ambitious plan for an extended CBD was created but property trends then began to impact negatively on Randburg Mall. Large enclosed malls in other parts of Johannesburg rendered this mall unfashionable as a retail destination; new office parks reduced its uniqueness as a decentralised office node. CBDs began to struggle in the late 1980s.
Time to do those tax forms again!
The first day of July marked the start of the 2010 Tax Season for millions of South Africa’s taxpayers.
Taxpayers can now request and submit their income tax returns to the South African Revenue Service (SARS). As in previous years, taxpayers will again have the option to file their returns electronically via eFiling or at SARS branches, or manually via the post and drop boxes at their local SARS branch.
Come clean with The Dirty Girls
Dee and Eve started a recycling depot at the Blairgowrie Plaza on Susman Avenue corner Consuenol, Blairgowrie. They are currently recycling paper, plastic, glass and cans.
You can either drop off your recyclable items at their depot or, if you have a large quantity, they may be willing to collect if you give them a shout. Any offices that have large quantities of white paper, please call the Dirty Girls.
Dee is at 076 298 8469 and Eve at 072 082 9515.
Bloom talks in Blairgowrie
DA Ward Councillor Alison van der Molen writes:
One of Helen Zille’s objectives is to win Johannesburg for the DA. It is quite a daunting task, but I feel that if we put shoulders to wheel now it can be achieved.
I am pleased to report that the Randburg Branch have hit the ground running and we have been involved in a number of projects that have raised the profile of the DA in the community. We have been involved in clean up and beautification of parks, tables at shopping centres and petition to widen the Conrad Bridge.
We are holding a public meeting on 21 July at the Blairgowrie Recreation Centre in Park Lane, Blairgowrie. The meeting will start at 7pm and the speaker will be Jack Bloom, our member from the Provincial Legislature. He will be speaking on the current crises in the Gauteng Health Dept and corruption within Government.
It would be appreciated if you could join us and also spread the message far and wide. I do believe that we can take Johannesburg and turn it around as was done in Cape Town. Let us not envy Cape Town, but rather emulate it.
Be an angel (come on!)
Angels Walking, now in its third year, is a fundraising concept where volunteers walk to raise money for the fight against cancer.
This year the walk will take place at the Johannesburg Zoo on Sunday 29 August. The walk is open to everyone - walkers are encouraged to come along with wings in the colour of the cancer they support.
Chamber helps Randburg businesses
The Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) support the drive towards promoting good practices in business and fighting corruption.
Its primary objective is to create an environment in Randburg in which business can flourish, to promote the business interests of its members, create an investor friendly climate and good service and governance in public administration.
Constitutional Court provides certainty for property owners
This press release comes from the DA:
In a landmark judgment handed down by the Constitutional Court last month, the constitutional legal standing of the Spatial Planning Policies of the City of Johannesburg and town planning policies of city councils across the country have been secured.
This will provide certainty to property owners who may be worried that neighbouring properties can be rezoned contrary to the local planning policy of the Council.
Flags add zest

The World Cup is over, but we will all remember this historic ocassion as a time of colour, noise, excitement and patriotism at its best. Randburg Square came to the party in style ... with a number of brightly coloured balls and flags.
